“In 1987, the Leiden city council suggested a statue of Ada van Holland (1188-1234) at this location, partly because there were no statues of women in Leiden. However, the statue never materialized. Now, 37 years later, Egelie is making a sculpture here based on Ada. It consists of molds and thus plays with the presence and absence of her statue and with her mystified life.”
